Introduction
Engineering Shipping and Payments for a Growing Marketplace
SnatchIT is a multi-vendor e-commerce platform that connects customers, sellers and affiliate marketers in one marketplace. Sellers list products, affiliates promote them and customers purchase through the web platform or mobile apps.
As the marketplace expanded, shipping became one of its most complex operational workflows. Mixed carts could contain products from different sellers, locations and inventories, with every item carrying its own dimensions, weight and packaging requirements. SnatchIT needed to display reliable FedEx shipping rates before payment without asking sellers to estimate packages manually.
The payment flow was equally important. Customer payments, platform commissions and seller earnings had to be calculated, tracked and released accurately. DevineGlobe designed a connected shipping and payment architecture that automated package selection, real-time rate requests and seller payouts while keeping the checkout experience clear for customers.
The Challenge
Accurate Shipping Across Sellers, Products and Locations
FedEx rates depend on shipment details such as package dimensions, weight, origin, destination and service type. A standard shipping plugin could request a rate, but it could not reliably decide how a mixed cart should be packed before making that request.
The challenge grew with every additional seller. Products could ship from different locations, vary widely in size or require separate packages. An incorrect box selection could create dimensional-weight discrepancies, overcharge the customer or leave the marketplace absorbing the difference during fulfillment.
SnatchIT needed one custom marketplace shipping solution to:
- Calculate package dimensions and total weight from live cart contents.
- Group products according to seller inventory and fulfillment location.
- Handle mixed carts, oversized products and irregular package requirements.
- Request and display real-time FedEx shipping rates at checkout.
- Reduce manual package estimation and shipping cost corrections.
- Scale across customer, seller and affiliate journeys without slowing checkout.
- Connect completed orders to accurate commissions and automated seller payouts.
The Solution
A Custom FedEx and Stripe Marketplace Architecture
Instead of adapting SnatchIT’s operations to an off-the-shelf plugin, DevineGlobe built a shipping intelligence layer around the marketplace’s actual product, seller and checkout logic. The solution calculated how an order should be packaged before sending shipment data to FedEx.
We paired this workflow with a marketplace-focused Stripe Connect integration. Together, the two systems created a clearer path from cart calculation and customer payment to seller fulfillment and payout.
1. Intelligent Dynamic Box Calculation Engine
We developed custom packaging logic that evaluated each product’s dimensions, weight, quantity and seller. The engine grouped compatible items, assessed box combinations and generated shipment-ready packages designed to reduce empty space and dimensional-weight errors.
2. Real-Time FedEx Shipping Rate Integration
Once the package configuration was ready, the platform sent the correct dimensions, weight, origin and destination to FedEx. Live shipping rates were returned and displayed during checkout, giving customers clearer costs before placing an order.
3. Marketplace-Aware Fulfillment Logic
The workflow separated products by seller and shipping location while maintaining one connected customer journey. Seller-specific orders, packaging requirements and shipping calculations could be processed behind the scenes without adding unnecessary steps at checkout.
4. Stripe Connect and Automated Seller Payouts
DevineGlobe connected seller accounts through Stripe Connect, applied platform commissions and tracked seller earnings. Payouts could be released after the required order and fulfillment checks, reducing manual calculations, transfers and reconciliation work.
The Approach
Built for Customers, Sellers and Marketplace Administrators
The customer experience remained simple. Shoppers could add products from different sellers, review transparent shipping charges and complete a secure payment without needing to understand the packaging logic working in the background.
For sellers, the system reduced the need to estimate boxes, calculate shipping costs or reconcile payouts manually. Orders remained connected to the correct inventory, fulfillment location, seller earnings and payout status.
For marketplace administrators, DevineGlobe added seller-wise transaction visibility, commission tracking, payout history and reporting. Refund and dispute workflows were connected to the relevant payment records, creating a more traceable financial process across the platform.
Performance optimization and quality assurance covered mixed-cart simulations, package configurations, rate responses, checkout scenarios and seller payout conditions. This ensured the custom FedEx API integration and Stripe marketplace payment flow worked together reliably across the web, iOS and Android experiences.
Section 5: Timeline and execution
Delivered Through Four Focused Phases
Phase 1: Discovery and Architecture
We mapped the marketplace shipping journey, seller fulfillment rules, FedEx API requirements and Stripe payment flow. This established how cart data, package logic, rates, commissions and payouts needed to connect.
Phase 2: Custom Development
Our engineers built the dynamic box calculation engine, FedEx rate integration, seller-specific shipping workflows and Stripe Connect architecture. Each component was designed around SnatchIT’s existing marketplace model.
Phase 3: Testing and Optimization
We simulated different product sizes, quantities, destinations, seller combinations and payout conditions. Rate validation, edge-case testing, performance optimization and quality assurance reduced the risk of checkout and fulfillment discrepancies.
Phase 4: Deployment and Support
The solution was prepared for production, monitored after rollout and supported through final quality checks. DevineGlobe remained available to resolve post-launch issues as the marketplace adopted the new workflows.
Conclusion
A Scalable Marketplace Foundation, Built Beyond Plugins
By combining dynamic box calculation, live FedEx rates and automated Stripe seller payouts, DevineGlobe turned two complex operational processes into one coordinated marketplace system. Customers received clearer shipping costs, sellers gained more dependable fulfillment and settlements, and administrators gained stronger control over transactions and payouts.
The project demonstrates how custom e-commerce development can solve business rules that standard integrations cannot. DevineGlobe brought product-level thinking, marketplace engineering, quality assurance and post-launch support together to create a solution built around SnatchIT’s actual operating model.
